This past weekend, Brent and I decided it was time to be true Seattleites (is that what we are called now?) and explore some hiking trails. Let’s be real, we aren’t really…’hikers’…so Brent asked a Co-Worker for some recommendations, and he suggested the Coal Creek Falls Trail. Perfect.
We packed up our pup, a nice lunch, a backpack with water (because that’s what hikers do…), and I put together the cutest hiking outfit I could think of (any excuse to wear comfy leggings and a flannel shirt is a good day for this gal!).
Well, turns out that Coal Creek Falls Trail is also a road… as in, we ended up in a Subdivision 30 minutes away from our place, hoping that a hiking trail was miraculously going to show up in the middle of Suburbia. <insert laughing/crying emoji here> Lost. But hey, life is an adventure (always) for the Barkeys, so we did a simple Google search and found some other trails we could hike on. I mean, we had the backpack and everything…
Turns out, I don’t like hiking when I don’t have an end destination in mind (ie: waterfalls), so after hiking for a couple miles, Brent was kind enough to look up Coal Creek Falls Trail one.more.time. Turns out, we were SO close the entire time.
We hiked back to the car, drove to Coal Creek Falls Trail – this time, ending up in the right place.
After a couple more miles, we ended up nuzzled back in the Pacific Northwest, and truly witnessing some beautiful country. We are talking skyscraper trees, rich moss, luscious landscapes, and of course, a little (gorgeous) waterfall.
I learned a lot about myself and out little family this weekend. We do well as a team, even when we are lost. I learned, I would get lost with Brent any day. I learned that, even when things don’t go according to plan, we can make some of the best memories.
